Empowering Future Leaders

Our scholarships are designed to help young African-American men overcome financial barriers and pursue higher education. By investing in their academic journeys, we provide the financial stability needed for them to focus on their studies and future careers. Each scholarship is a commitment to a brighter future, not just for the recipient but for our entire community.

  • Financial Support: Providing essential funding to cover tuition, books, and other educational costs.
  • Access to Opportunity: Creating pathways to colleges and universities that might otherwise be out of reach.
  • Academic Achievement: Empowering students to excel by reducing the burden of financial stress.

About the Michael Drake Scholarship Fund

Michael Vincent Drake is an American physician. He served as the 21st president of the University of California from August 2020 to August 2025, as the 15th president of Ohio State University from 2014 to 2020, and as the 5th chancellor of the University of California, Irvine from 2005 to 2014. Dr. Drake retired in 2025.

Dr. Drake will be honored by his peers and key constituents on November 1, 2025, and a scholarship fund has been established through the University of San Francisco. The scholarship is based upon the following criteria: Academic achievement, community engagement, personal triumphs over adversity, and recommendation from their university staff. Students who are significantly involved in organizations, community action efforts, and current initiatives that promote academic success for Black students and address anti-Blackness and systemic racism within the campus and the broader community will be given special consideration.
